map in hand, making many u-turns
After blowing off the gym for the whole week, this morning I wrote a little sticky note and put it on the class of my dashboard display. The note says “Please love yourself enough to go to the gym.” I had this wonderful idea that I would get in my car, have this fuzzy warm “awww” moment, perhaps even with little tears in my eyes, then drive straight to the gym and work out like I’ve never worked out before.
As I asked Lorster, exactly where is my dream world located? Do I take a right at the rainbow or a left at the unicorn? Why does the path I’m taking have easy access to an entire little box (240 calories worth) of animal crackers (which are NOT crackers, they are cookies damn it!)???
We keep asking ourselves what it is going to take to do this? What is the reward that will make us follow a healthier eating plan and exercise? Obviously smaller bodies and being healthier isn’t doing the trick.
Why is it that you can know perfectly well what you need to do, yet doing it seems like such an effort? I mean, I love the feeling of working out, however I keep finding myself too lazy to get started. Oh maybe some cute workout clothes would make a difference, but really, at my size, what is cute? Perhaps if I could shop for a new body or a finished product while I’m at the gym, I’d go more? That would do it! How nice it would be if you could say “ok, see that hot girl over there with the awesome muscle definition all over and the perfect tone everywhere, even on her ass? I’d like that model please.” Then you’d sign a contract that says “you follow this program for XX (or XXX?) months and we guarantee you this finished product” and you’d start chipping away at it.
Instead you chip away with no guarantees, no clue what the outcome is, or even a promise that you’ll find jeans that finally make your butt look good.
I’m turning left at the unicorn. I’ve heard there is a pot of gold that way ….
